Do not Lose Heart...

Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
20 October 2019

First reading Exodus 17:8-13

Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some men for us and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; so his hands were steady until the sun set. And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the sword.

Second reading                                                          Timothy 3:14–4:2

As for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching.

Gospel                                                                          Luke 18:1-8

Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my opponent.’ For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, ‘Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.'”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

Reflection
By Fely C. Santiago

“...when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

According to Pope Francis, "Faith is not a light that scatters all our darkness but a lamp that guides our steps in the night.”

Do you have prayers that are not yet answered up to now? Or dreams that have not yet come true? Or have you been praying to get out of debts? Or praying to find your one true love? Or healing for a loved one or for yourself? You have suffered for so long. Why does n't God seem to answer your prayers?

No one knows the answer for sure. But you just have to stay in faith for God knows what is best for you. Maybe God answered NO because there is something better for you. Maybe God answered NOT NOW because He is still preparing you to be ready for the overflowing blessings that’s coming your way. Do not lose heart. Remember St Monica prayed for many many years for the conversion of her son St Augustine. He is now one of the most loved saints.

Our family right now also has a prayer that has remain unanswered for more than 20 years already. It seems nothing is happening. It’s been a long time already. We could have easily given up on this dream. But we keep the faith, believing that God must be cooking up something great! We actually see God’s hands at work in the unfolding of events. We know the best is yet to come. And maybe God is also preparing us for this abundant blessings coming our way.

So never lose heart. As Bro Audee from The Feast said “Just because you don’t see anything happening, it doesn’t mean that God is not moving. He is in the background cooking up something for you!”

Stay in faith. The BEST is coming your way!

Prayer

Dear Jesus, please prepare our hearts to receive the abundant, overflowing, and avalanche of blessings coming our way. We believe in the outpouring of Your graces. When it comes, let not our hearts and minds get attached to it that we forget You. Help us to always remember that all blessings and graces comes from You and we are nothing without You. Help up to remain dependent on You and obey You. All these or something better Father, may Your WILL be done in Jesus’ name. Amen.
